The words that decide your price bracket

TemplateEasy1 hour

What this fixes: Losing to cheapest bid · Price shoppers · Wrong kind of leads · Weak differentiation · Commodity positioning

Two pond builders doing identical work can sit in completely different price brackets, and often the only difference visible to a homeowner is the language on the website.

If you use the same words as the cheapest operator in your market, you are asking to be compared to them on price.

Swaps worth making

"Free estimate" becomes "design consultation". Free signals commodity. A consultation signals expertise and it is closer to what actually happens.

"Maintenance" becomes "care" or "stewardship" where it fits. Maintenance is what you do to a machine.

"Job" becomes "project" or "commission" depending how far up market you are aiming.

"Cheap" and "affordable" disappear entirely. If you want to signal value, be specific about what is included instead.

"Complimentary" instead of "free" throughout.

The honest caveat

Do not adopt language that does not match your business. If you build solid mid market ponds and do good work at a fair price, calling everything a commission is going to read as pretentious and lose you the customers you actually want. Match the words to the work.

Beyond the swaps

Lead with the outcome, not the product. A swim pond buyer is not buying filtration. They are buying summer evenings and a yard their kids use. Specification belongs further down the page, after the reason.

Be honest and specific in your opening lines. "Most pond contractors will not talk numbers until you have sat through a sales consultation. We think that is backwards" does more positioning work than a page of adjectives, because it takes a position that a competitor cannot copy without sounding like they mean it.

Never apologise for price anywhere on the site.

The test

Read your homepage and ask whether it sounds like the person who does the best work in your market, or like the person trying hardest to be picked. Those read very differently.
