Turning one long video into a month of content

ChecklistModerate2 hours per source video

What this fixes: No video · Inconsistent posting · Stale social · No content

Tick these off as you go. This page remembers where you got to, so you can come back to it another day.

One properly filmed build gives you a long video, six shorts, a project page, and four weeks of posts. The footage is not the bottleneck. The process is.

The pipeline

  1. Film the build using the shot list in this toolbox.
  2. Stitch the long version, eight to twelve minutes, in build order. That goes on YouTube and on the project page.
  3. Pull six to eight short clips from it.
  4. Schedule them across the next four weeks.
  5. Repeat with the next job.

Pulling the clips, and the trap to avoid

AI clipping tools will happily pick your clips for you and score them for you. In practice those scores are unreliable for trade content, because the tools are tuned for talking head and entertainment video. A clip the tool scores poorly is often the best one you have.

Watch the footage yourself and pick the moments. It takes twenty minutes. If you use a tool, give it specific prompts about what to look for rather than letting it auto select, and then review everything it returns.

What makes a clip work

It starts at the interesting part. No intro, no logo, no "hey guys". The first second shows the thing.

It is one idea. One problem, one solution, one reveal.

It has real sound. Water, machinery, your voice. Not a music bed.

It is vertical, twelve to thirty seconds.

Stock footage and generated B roll

If you are adding B roll, review every piece of it. Automated B roll defaults to generic stock that has nothing to do with your work, and a generic clip dropped into your own build footage is worse than no B roll at all. If the stock library has nothing honest, cut the B roll rather than forcing it.

Captions

Burn them in. Most people watch with sound off first, then turn it on if the first two seconds hold them.

Where each piece goes

Long version: YouTube and the project page. Clips: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, spread over a month. Best clip: pinned on the service page it relates to.
